Do you tend to dismiss the software update messages that pop up on your computer at the most inconvenient times? Rather than dismiss them, you may want to consider waiting until the end of the day and running them when it is more convenient. This may be a good time to plug in your backup drive, as well.

Software updates are important because they keep your computer working more efficiently! Failing to update your computer can cause problems such as not being able to print.

Here's how to perform Software Updates on your computer!

1. Go to the black apple, located at the top left of your screen.

2. Click on 'Software Updates..."

3. Wait patiently :-) while your computer is 'Checking for new software...' (The longer it's been since you've updated, the longer this will take, but generally it takes only a few minutes.)

4. A window will appear asking you if you'd like to 'Show Details' or 'Continue'.
  • If you'd like to perform every update, click 'Continue'
  • If you would like to see what updates are available (and choose which to perform or skip), click 'Show Details.'

5. If you clicked on 'Show Details', remove the check from the items that you do not wish to update at this time. If different updates appear for the same program, you can click the latest version- no need to click previous updates.

6. Click 'Install (#) Items' (# = how many items you selected)

7. Occasionally you will be prompted to restart your computer in order to complete the update. After performing an update and restarting your computer, it is always a good idea to run software updates again to ensure that all system software is up to date. If more updates appear, it is often because one update is a prerequisite of other updates. Just run thought the update process a second time, if new items appear.
